The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tacna Regional Government to work together to promote the Tacna-Arica railway project.
The railway project is expected to benefit over 60,000 passengers per month. After 168 years, the historic Tacna-Arica Railway may enter a modernization phase. This could be achieved through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), involving an investment of over US$ 70 million for upgrading railway tracks, replacing rolling stock and equipment, and modernizing stations, along with operating and maintaining passenger and cargo transportation services. The agency's technical team will seek potential private investors to support the project, which aims to enhance tourism and trade in the Tacna region.
