The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) will incorporate some changes to the concession contract to build a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Puerto Maldonado, Madre de Dios, to attract more interested parties through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

To date, the project has three prequalified bidders: Tecnología Intercontinental, SAPI de CV, Consorcio Saneamiento Puerto Maldonado (BTD Capital 12, SL and Calare Investments, SL) and Copasa-Almar (Anonymous Company of Works and Services, COPASA, Branch of Peru and Almar Water Services Spain, SL). The estimated investment is around US$ 100 million and the concession period is 23 years through a PPP co-financed by the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS) as grantor.

The project will allow the installation and rehabilitation of 192 km of primary and secondary sewage networks, the expansion of more than 13,800 household connections to the drainage network, as well as the construction, operation and implementation of the WWTP. The project will contribute to closing gaps in drinking water and sewerage, provide an efficient and sustainable wastewater treatment and final disposal service, promote the decontamination of the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers, and impact the health and quality of life of 120,000 residents.
