The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) has received the technical and economic proposals for the execution of the Huancayo - Huancavelica Railway Modernization project (Tren Macho), in the regions of Junín and Huancavelica, Peru.
The HH Railway Consortium, Consorcio Concesionaria Ferroviaria del Centro, and Mota-Engil Perú SA were prequalified for the project. The modernization is estimated to cost US$ 565 million, with US$ 445 million allocated for the primary modernization investment and US$ 120 million for operation and maintenance expenses over the first 10 years. The concession period will span 30 years, including five years for design and construction and 25 years for operation and maintenance.
The modernization project will transform the 128.7-km Tren Macho route, providing upgraded infrastructure, new rolling stock, and a signaling and communication system that ensures users a safe, efficient, and comfortable transportation experience. The project also includes the construction of a new repair and maintenance workshop, a drainage system, slope protection, and the renovation of the railway superstructure. The modernized railway will offer seven daily trips in each direction and feature a social fare set by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, making this essential transportation option more accessible to users.
