The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) has planned to award Port and Terminal Expansion Projects in Peru.
The New Port Terminal in San Juan de Marcona (Ica) and the Chimbote Port (Ancash) are both projects that PROINVERSIÓN plans to award within the next 12 months under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, representing a combined investment estimate of approximately US$600 million.
The New San Juan de Marcona Port Terminal, valued at approximately US$400 million, will be declared of interest in the Q3 of 2023. This new port will specialize in offering loading and unloading services, with a particular focus on iron concentrates, minerals, and mining supplies. It is expected to handle up to 18 million metric tons of cargo from major mining projects in southern Peru. Additionally, the port will cater to liquid bulk cargo, and general cargo, including containerized goods.
The Port of Chimbote project entails an investment of nearly US$180 million, aimed at modernizing the terminal for the efficient handling of export products such as fishmeal, minerals, and agro-industrial goods.
