The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) has awarded the German Peruvian consortium “Consorcio LSH Consulting Engineers SAC and Agua Energía y Minería Ingenieros Consultores SA” the Good Award for the preparation of technical studies pre-investment of the Chinecas project in Peru.
The Chinecas project, with an initial investment estimate of approximately US$700 million , aims to redirect the waters of the Santa River, encompassing around 50,000 ha of new land. It seeks to enhance irrigation across approximately 33,000 ha in the valleys and intervals of Santa Lacramarca, Nepeña, Casma, and Huarmey. Additionally, it aims to provide water for population use in localities within its region and facilitate viable hydroelectric purposes. The project involves the construction of a new primary intake and reservoirs for regulating the Santa River's waters, along with the expansion of its main channels to the Casma and Huarmey valleys.
Presently, the Chinecas project already includes operational components, such as two intakes on the Santa River , canals, and tunnels extending to the Nepeña valley. The upcoming infrastructure improvements are designed to ensure a consistent water supply throughout the year. This development is expected to enable the project to shift towards modern agriculture with significant agro-export potential, leading to a multiplier effect on the economy, employment, and trade beyond Ancash and the national borders.
