The Peruvian Agency for the Promotion of Private Investment (ProInversion) awarded on July 25th, 2013, two concessions to distribute natural gas in the country.
The Consortium Promigas-Surtigas of Colombia was awarded the rights to carry out a project to distribute natural gas to the northern regions of Peru, while Gas Natural Internacional of Spain won the concession for the southwestern regions.
Promigas-Surtigas won the tender process by offering to provide 126,282 connections to natural gas, while the second closest company could only offered 118,974 connections. The main item to be considered for the allocation of the gas rights was to provide the greatest amount of connections.
The auction of the southwest region was given to Natural Gas International after the Spanish company offered 69,000 connections.
Proinversion said that in both tender the winners more than doubled the minimum number of connections established in the tender documents. The total estimated investment required for the mentioned minimums was US$205 million.
Both projects entitle the companies to design, finance, construct, operate and maintain the system of distributing natural gas through a pipeline network. Proinversión said that the projects will be delivered by the end of 2016.
The northern concession comprises the cities of Chimbote and Huaraz in Ancash, Trujillo and Pacasmayo in La Libertad, Cajamarca and Chiclayo and Lambayeque in Lambayeque. And the southwestern concession includes Ilo in Moquegua,and Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna.
