The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR) have continued the process of socializing the project "Improvement of Public Tourism Services of the Choquequirao Archaeological Park."
The Choquequirao Cable Car project, currently being structured as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), seeks to improve the tourist experience at the Choquequirao Archaeological Monument (MACH) with an estimated investment of US$261 million. It is expected to significantly reduce travel time and increase the number of tourists to one million per year, boosting tourism, the local economy, and job creation in Cusco and Apurímac.
The project includes two cable car sections: from Cusco (Yanama) with stations in Abra San Juan, Maizal, and Abra Choquequirao; and from Apurímac (Huanipaca), with stations in Kiuñalla and Unión, crossing the Apurímac River canyon. In addition, tourist routes and central stations will be built in each region.
