Progress on Bogotá-Girardot highway reaches 65.16%

The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) announced that the Progress on the Bogotá-Girardot highway which is part of the fourth generation of road concessions and has an investment of US$ 2.92 billion has reached 65.16% and an important section will be delivered before the end of 2024.

With an approximate length of 145 km, the project is divided into 8 Functional Units, including the expansion to a third lane from the Chinauta toll to Soacha on both roads and the expansion to a third lane from the Boquerón sector to the Chinauta toll, in the Girardot-Bogotá direction, left the road. To date, of the 8 project units, four sections have been delivered between Soacha, Sibaté, Silvania, Fusagasugá, Melgar, Ricaurte and Girardot. Before completion in 2024, Functional Unit 3 is expected to be completed, consisting of 21 km from the Sumapaz tunnel exit to the Jaibaná intersection in Fusagasugá, including the Boquerón vehicular bridge and 13 km of a third lane in the Chinauta sector. Likewise, work continues on Functional Units 6 and 7, between the municipalities of Silvania and Granada and the municipality of Granada to the El Muña viaduct, respectively, which will be put into service to users in the first half of 2025. Sections put into service are:

  • Functional Unit 1: includes 51 km and goes from the San Rafael variant or Girardot variant to the entrance of the Sumapaz tunnel. There, rehabilitation and maintenance activities of the pavement, slope stabilization, the construction of the new Tolemaida bridge, and 2 new roundabouts were carried out, one in Ricaurte and another in Melgar.

  • Functional Unit 4: 14 km long, from the Fusagasugá bypass, Jaibaná intersection, to the Cucharal bridge, including the urban passage of the municipality. The 6 km widening of the Fusagasugá bypass to three lanes and the construction of two roundabouts stand out.

  • Functional Unit 8: 11 km, between Muña and the La Despensa Soacha pedestrian bridge.

  • Functional Unit 5: in the process of receiving due to the completion of works. It consists of 6.56 km, from the Cucharal bridge in Fusagasugá in three lanes to the El Jordán bridge near the entrance to Silvania. This functional unit had the construction of 4 pedestrian bridges and 4 vehicular bridges as emblematic works of the same.
