The Kansas Board of Regents has approved a master plan for the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) campus. Located near Hutchinson, the project is proposed by the University of Kansas and involves the renovation of the current campus. The aim is to create a public safety campus with facilities to strengthen core competencies in basic training, expand professional development and implement campus security.
The investment in the project varies between US$200-250 million and includes the acquisition of land adjacent to the current location, utilities, roads, drainage, demolition of some buildings, renovations of other ones and construction of new facilities. The project is expected to span 20 years, resulting in a campus with 19 buildings.
The Kansas Board of Regents, who oversees nine higher education facilities in Kansas, is considering a public-private partnership to help offset the costs.
