The Government of Brazil is about to submit a request for a new concession for the Sao Goncalo do Amarante Airport in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The initial project involved the construction and management of a new airport, which became operational in 2014. Located 33 km from the center of Natal, the airport was awarded to Inframérica in 2011, but low passenger traffic and lower boarding fares compare to other Brazilian airports led to the company's request to terminate the contract.
The request for a re-auction will be reviewed by the Court of Cuentas de la Unión (TCU), which will decide if the sub-program can proceed as planned. In addition, a public consultation was completed in preparation for the establishment of a bidding process. The contract will be awarded for 30 years with an estimated capital of BRL309 million (US$58.67 million).
