The Government of Brazil has sanctioned a law that will make the expansion of the Belo Horizonte metro feasible. The BRL2.8 billion (US$521.95 million) project has been under dispute, but the agreement between the federal government of Brazil and the state government of Minas Gerais will allow for the privatization and implementation of the project.
Companhia Brasileira de Trens Urbanos (CBTU) will act as contracting authority for the project. The scope of works involves the expansion of Line 1 and operation and maintenance of Lines 2 & 3 among others. Belo Horizonte metro project is expected to be announced in March 2022, after which the auction process will take place.
National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) will provide necessary resources for the project's concession. According to the agreement, the state government will finance another BRL400 million (US$74.53 million) in addition to federal funds.
