Government of Welsh and Velindre University NHS Trust in the UK have delayed the procurement processes for the development of Velindre cancer centre due to coronavirus pandemic. The concession involves design, construction, finance and maintenance of the Velindre Cancer Centre in Whitchurch, North Cardiff. The facility will be designed for 1,000 members of staff and is planned for the north of the city on land to the north of Whitchurch Hospital playing fields. Velindre Centre will include a specialist cancer treatment centre, a centre for learning, research and development facilities, temporary construction accesses, parking, energy centre, landscape works, and pedestrian paths. The centre will occupy an area of approx. 32,500 sqm.
The authority has stopped processing planning applications and deferred two applications for access roads to the new centre. The planning applications will be processed by the end of April 2020. The authorities expect a delay of three months in the procurement process.
