The state government of Delta, located in the south of Nigeria, has published an Invitation for Prequalification for the design, financing, construction, operation and transfer of Asaba International Airport (AIA) under a long-term concession agreement.
The invitation forms the first phase of the international competitive bidding process for the project. The Government of Delta State intends to select a private sector developer/operator for the airport through an open, transparent and competitive international bidding process, with the objective of commercially signing the concession agreement as soon as possible.
The concessionaire will be responsible for the development of a new model/master-plan for the airport. The existing infrastructure includes a 3.4km runway, a 3500m2 terminal building, a control tower, fire station, a 1.6 million-litre tank farm and about 300 hectares of land for further development.
Proposed new facilities intended for the master-plan include a cargo terminal/freight centre, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and hanger facilities, a heliport, a hotel and convention centre and a business park. The concession could also include terminal, apron and taxiway expansion and civil works.
Prequalification applications must be submitted by 7 December 2018. For more information, see the Business Opportunity.
