The National Infrastructure Agency has completed the priority interventions in the Fifth Generation (5G) Buga – Buenaventura project in Colombia.
The project, covering 128 km between Buga-Loboguerrero-Buenaventura, involves a total investment of US$4.05 billion. Of this amount, US$2.2 billion is allocated to construction works, while US$1.8 billion is designated for its ongoing operation and maintenance. The project encompasses 21 Functional Units and is currently in progress, within the preconstruction phase. The primary objective of these initiatives is to uphold the concessioned road in a well-maintained condition, ensuring safe operating conditions for traffic. This is guided by principles like continuity, regularity, quality technical service, and customer satisfaction, all aimed at preserving road safety and the integrity of the corridor.
During this ongoing phase, significant advancements have been achieved in various project aspects, such as the network transfer plan, property acquisition, and social management. Thus far, tasks related to pavement intervention, horizontal signage, replacement of vertical signs, metallic defense improvement, and Rocería have been addressed. Additional efforts encompass the maintenance of drainage works, vertical signs, concrete barriers, tunnels, and landslide mitigation. The direct beneficiaries of this project are the residents of Buga, Yotoco, Restrepo, Calima (Darién), Dagua, and Buenaventura municipalities.
