The Korean government has secured the right to negotiate a US$1 billion water supply project for an industrial park in Bangladesh.
During the fifth round of a Korea-Bangladesh public-private partnership (PPP) consultation meeting in Dhaka, Bangladesh granted preferential negotiation rights for the water supply project to Korean companies. The project's objective is to deliver a daily water supply of 250,000 tons to an industrial park within the BSMSN Economic Zone in Chattogram City.
A consortium composed of Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND) and Taeyoung E&C will be actively involved. As holders of the preferential negotiation rights, these Korean companies will exclusively engage in negotiations with the Bangladeshi government to establish project terms, without participating in a public bidding process. This will lead them to subsequently submit proposals and engage in negotiations to ultimately formalize a contract for the project.
