The government of Sindh in Pakistan has selected a consortium of four companies as private partner for the concession of Malir Expressway project. The companies of the consortium have not been named. In total three teams bid for the project, and the consortium presented the lowest bid.

The concession involves the construction, financing, operation, maintenance and transfer of an access-controlled 39.4km expressway along the Malir River in Karachi, the capital of the province of Sindh. The six-lane dualized highway, designed for high-speed traffic, will start before Jam Sadiq River Bridge on Korangi Road and end near Kathore at the junction of existing Link Road and M-9 motorway. The private partner will also modify the 2.4 km exiting portion of Link Road and the existing Trumpet Interchange on M-9 to meet the design requirements of the expressway.

The RFP for the project was launched on July 31, 2019. The authority received three bids for the concession and decided to go with the lowest bid from a consortium of four companies.

The main objective of the project is to deliver the strategic expressway required to accommodate the increasing traffic in the north of Karachi, on account of increased economic activity. The project will serve as the southern alternative route for the traffic of the port and industrial areas. The expressway would also facilitate thousands of commuters and heavy traffic of the Karachi Port, Korangi Industrial Area, Landhi Industrial Area, Steel Mills, Port Qasim and other such areas towards upcountry through the National and Superhighways.
