The provincial government of Cavite in the Philippines has selected a consortium of MacroAsia and Chinese Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC) as preferred bidder for the Sangley Point International Airport concession. The concession involves the development of a new international airport in Sangley Point, Cavite, in the Calabarzon region of the Philippines. The airport is proposed to be developed on a 1,500-hectare site, it will have four runways and will handle around 130 million passengers. The proposed concession period is 50 years. The project will transform the existing Sangley Airport into an international air hub.
The project was awarded on February 15, 2020, but the consortium is facing difficulties completing qualification requirements, due to the coronavirus disease outbreak in China. The disease outbreak is keeping officials from CCCC from visiting Manila, Philippines. The authority has given 60 days to complete the post-qualification requirements before the contract can be signed.
MicroAsia holds 40% stake in the consortium while the remaining 60% stake is held by Chinese Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC). The consortium will also have the right to first offer for the second phase of the SPIA project which will expand the development for a second runway, with an annual design capacity for 75 million passengers.
