City of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil has selected Smart Luz consortium as preferred bidder for public lighting project in Rio de Janeiro. The scope of works involves the provision of 440,000 LED lamps, installation of 5,000 free Wifi points, and replacing 34,500 public lighting poles around the city.
Smart Luz consortium comprises of companies High Trend, Proteres Participações, Arc, Salberg, and Green Luce. The consortium will invest BRL 1.4 billion (US$ 251.18 million) for the development of the project. The concession period for the project is 20 years. The consortium will explore additional services and share the generated revenues with the municipality. The main focus is the enhancement of the public lighting infrastructure in Rio de Janeiro to, among others, develop the internet of things, smart city solutions, and infrastructure sharing.
