The Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council in Australia has awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) concession of East Rockingham Resource Recovery Facility project. The project will be developed by consortium of Acciona, New Energy Corporation, Tribe Infrastructure Group and Hitachi Zosen INOVA.
The Resource Recovery Facility waste-to-energy project in Western Australia deals with the household waste in rubbish bins left over after residents have reduced, re-used and recycled their waste. The facility will recover usable materials and/or energy from waste, diverting between 70-90% of waste (by volume) from landfill. The project will convert approximately 300,000 tonnes of waste per year into baseload renewable energy, producing 28MW of electricity at full capacity -- enough to power 36,000 homes.
