The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), has published the pre-specification documents for the hiring of a specialized consultancy for the pre-feasibility level which enables the comprehensive structuring of the railway connection between the Bogotá - Cundinamarca Metropolitan Region and the central railway corridor (La Dorada - Chiriguaná) in Colombia.
The structuring process will involve identifying, analyzing, and evaluating at least 3 alternatives to ensure an efficient connection, considering various factors such as technical, economic, financial, legal, property, social, environmental, and risk components. The goal is to determine the optimal alternative based on the principle of achieving the best cost-benefit ratio. Currently, there are 3 major railway corridors: La Dorada - Chiriguaná (operational), Bogotá - Belencito (operational), and the Red Férrea del Pacífico (under development). It is crucial to establish efficient connections between these corridors to integrate them effectively with the country's road, river, port, and airport networks.
Upon implementation of this railway connection, the transportation of heavy industry and large-volume cargo from inland production centers will have the capability to reach seaports situated in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
