The state Board of Regents in Iowa, USA will hold 2 special meetings in December 2019 to consider the University of Iowa's (UI) public-private partnership proposal to operate and maintain the institution’s utility system. The project includes the development, operation, and management of the University of Iowa on-campus utility systems through a 50-year concession agreement. Under the agreement, the private partner will pay an upfront lump sum amount which could help fund the university's strategic plan. The university will pay annual pay for the operation of the utility system.
UI will deliver an informational webinar of the agreement to the board on December 03, 2019 and the board will make a decision on approval on December 10, 2019. If the concession is approved the UI is planning to launch a request for proposal (RFP) and select the vendor, which will partner in the utility system after commercial and financial close in January 2020.
The employee of UI can expect the job from the private partner, those not offered a position or those who choose not to move to the new operating entity will be retained by the UI.
