Kazakhtelecom JSC, Kazakhstan’s state telco, has agreed to sell its Mobile Telecom Services (MTS) mobile network to Qatar’s Power International Holding (PIH).
A preliminary agreement was reached in Qatar among PIH, Kazakhtelecom JSC, and Samruk-Kazyna, Kazakhstan’s sovereign wealth fund, which holds ownership in the telecommunications company. Following the completion of the deal, PIH will assume complete ownership of the mobile network. The MTS network, represented by the Tele2 and Altel brands, serves 7 million customers and is involved in a consortium deploying 5G base stations across Kazakhstan to enhance the country's network infrastructure.
