Cluj-Napoca, Romania's second-largest city, has awarded SYSTRA a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) contract to supervise the design and construction of its first automatic metro line.
The Design & Build contract was signed by the Gulermak – Alstom – Arcada construction consortium. The Cluj-Napoca metro will be a completely underground line serving the entire city. Once in service, it will be Romania’s second-largest metro system after Bucharest, but above all, it will be the country’s first 100% automatic, driverless line. Fast, reliable and sustainable, the Cluj-Napoca metro will help to boost public transport services throughout the region. The metro is scheduled to open at the end of 2031.
The Romanian Ministry of Transport & Infrastructure has launched a groundbreaking ceremony for the Construction of Cluj-Napoca metro Line 1.
