Private capital firm Plenary Group has confirmed interest in partnering with the Tasmanian government to deliver the proposed Macquarie Point AFL stadium in Tasmania, Australia.
The government intends to secure private capital for the precinct and stadium through a competitive bid process, where a private partner will be selected. Operating under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, this partnership entails that assets such as the stadium will be owned entirely by the Tasmanian government, with Stadiums Tasmania responsible for its operation. However, financing, management, and maintenance of the precinct will be the responsibility of the successful consortium, with the government making periodic payments over the contract term, which is expected to span 25 or 30 years. After the contract, management and maintenance duties will revert to the government. The total investment at Macquarie Point is anticipated to surpass AU$ 1 billion (US$ 660 million), with the stadium alone budgeted at AU$ 715 million (US$ 472 million).
