The Government of Vietnam has announced plans to construct a US D2.2 billion motorway to link Pleiku in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai with the port city of Quy Nhon.
Binh Dinh and Gia Lai are currently connected by the 243 km-long Highway 19, which is known for its poor condition. A new 143 km highway with four lanes is proposed, slated for construction between 2025 and 2030, primarily funded by the state. A PPP venture would require the state to cover 76%-88% of the cost to be viable within 25 years. This route would connect to north-south motorways and the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia development triangle. If approved, it will be the fifth road project linking the Central Highlands to the coast since 2021. The other four will connect the provinces of Khanh Hoa and Buon Ma Thuot, Tan Phu and Bao Loc, Bao Loc and Lien Khuong, and Gia Nghi and Chon Thanh.
