Birmingham City Council has given planning permission for the Birmingham Health Innovation Campus project in Selly Oak, UK. Construction work is expected to begin in the summer of 2021, with the first phase to be completed in 2023. The first phase includes the development of a 133,000 sq ft campus, consisting of lab and office space for health innovation and life sciences businesses. The building will also home the University of Birmingham’s Precision Health Technologies Accelerator (PHTA), which will provide spaces for businesses to engage with academics and clinicians.

In addition, project developer, Bruntwood, and Legal & General together with the University of Birmingham and two NHS Foundation Trusts have agreed to invest GBP 210 million (US$ 291.85 million) in the research campus. In total, the area of the project covers up to 657,000 sq ft of space dedicated to science and innovation in medtech, precision medicine, biopharma and digital healthcare. The campus will support the creation of over 10,000 new jobs.
