Birmingham Highways Limited (BHL) in the UK has launched a prior information notice (PIN) seeking a private partner to appoint as a sub-contractor that will carry out the operation, rehabilitation, and maintenance of the Birmingham highway infrastructure. Birmingham city council has awarded BHL a 25 year PFI contract for the road network in the city.
Under the procurement process, BHL will sub-contract the operation, rehabilitation, and maintenance works of the Birmingham highway infrastructure until the expiry of the PFI contract in June 2035. The estimated investment value of the contract is GBP1.15 billion (US$1.58 billion).
The contract notice is planned to be published on January 31, 2022. Until the new sub-contractor is appointed, BHL will extend the interim arrangements with current contractor Kier, which will provide services till August 2023 as well as certain highway services in relation to the Commonwealth Games 2022.
