The government of Piauí in Brazil has awarded eight mini photovoltaic (PV) plants under the PPP with a production capacity of 5 MW each to three consortia. Following companies will be responsible for the construction, operation, maintenance and management of the mini-plants:
The PPP provides an investment of over BRL150 million (US$27.6 million) and up to 23% of the monthly reduction in state energy spending for public agencies. Under a 25-years contract, the project will produce energy injected into the Equatorial utility network and will directly benefit almost 90,000 residents of the area. In addition, the selected companies will develop in partnership with the State University of Piauí (Uespi) a Renewable Energy and Research Center, which will be a space for research, technical training and education.
