The government of Philippines has selected a total of 13 PPP projects to be exempted from the ban on public works and infrastructure ahead of the national elections, which will take place in May.
The tender processes for the projects, which will have a combined total investment estimated at P514 billion (US$10.7 billion), will not be disrupted once the national elections begin.
The 13 selected projects, which are in the tender process stage and most of them belong to the transport sector, are the following:
- Laguna Lakeshore Expressway Dike. The project has the following components: 47 kilometers expressway dike with two sections ( Laguna Lakeshore Expresswaay Dike & Calamba-Los Baños Toll Expressway); flood control system; and initial 700 hectares reclamation component.
- North South Railway project (South Line). The preferred bidder will be responsible for the design, construct, install, commission, finance; the Commuter Rail from Tutuban, Manila to Calamba, Laguna (56km); and the Long-Haul Rail from Tutuban, Manila to Legazpi, Albay in the Bicol Region (478km) with the following possible extensions: Calamba, Laguna to Batangas City, Batangas (58km); and (b) Legazpi, Albay to Matnog, Sorsogon (117km).
- Davao Sasa Port Modernization project. The project will involve the development of the existing Davao Sasa port in Davao City into a modern, international-standard container terminal that will improve trade access to Mindanao and the Philippines.
- New Centennial Water Source- Kaliwa Dam project. The project involves the following components: Kaliwa Low Dam with a capacity of 600 million liters per day, a 2,400-MLD water conveyance tunnel, as well as access roads, bridges and drainage system in General Nakar, Quezon.
- Airport operations, maintenance and development contracts for the Bohol, Laguindingan, Davao, Bacolod and Iloilo. The operation and maintenance airport projects are tendered in two packages, A and B.
- Light Rail Transit Line 2. The winning bidder will take over the O&M of all 11 stations of the existing line, the development of the 4.19-kilometer LRT-2 Masinag Extension and the construction of 2 additional stations along the corridor and other future extensions of the LTR-2 system.
- Regional prison facility in Nueva Ecija. The project will entail the construction and maintenance of a modern prison facility in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija. The proposed facility will have capacity to accommodate 26,880 inmates.
- Road Transport Information IT project. It aims to deliver a transparent and efficient registration and franchising system through streamlining of the LTFRB's current processes, automation, and modernization of its existing client services IT infrastructure.
- Bulacan Bulk Water Supply project. The project aims to address the water supply requirements of municipalities in the Province of Bulacan. the project is a 30-year contract to build and operate facilities for treated bulk water in Bulacan, north of Manila.
