The Government of Peru has canceled the concession package for ’Via Expresa sur’ highway project.
The concession was originally awarded to the Peruvian company, Graña y Montero. However, the involvement of the Brazilian firm Odebrecht in the project has resulted in the cancellation of the deal. Odebrecht has been linked to a string of corruption scandals.
Jorge Muñoz, the mayor of Lima, said that with the concession contract with Graña y Montero being canceled, the work will be again concessioned. ¨We will have to find other alternatives to carry out the work,¨ he said.
The project is intended to reduce the travel times in Lima, with the work expected to cost US$200 million.
