Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) in the USA held an Industry outreach presentation for its Major Bridge Public-Private Partnership (P3) Initiative. The bridges will be delivered using the design, build, finance, and maintenance model. The chosen partner(s) will receive availability payments as well as toll revenues.

PennDOT is planning to publish RFQ in June 2021.

These nine major bridges (and associated roadways) across the state are included in the initiative:

  • I-78 Lenhartsville Bridge Replacement Project (Berks County)-  replacement of the existing bridge over Maiden Creek and PA-143 and widen it to accommodate the addition of auxiliary lanes;
  • I-79 Widening, Bridges and Bridgeville Interchange Reconfiguration (Allegheny County)-  replacement of the northbound and southbound bridges on I-79 mainline over SR-50;
  • I-80 Canoe Creek Bridges (Clarion County)- the replacement of the existing structures and update the roadway within the project limits to meet current design criteria and improve safety along the corridor;
  • I-80 Nescopeck Creek Bridges (Luzerne County)- the replacement of the bridges to provide wider shoulders that meet current standards and accommodate and facilitate future maintenance activities on the bridge;
  • I-80 North Fork Bridges Project (Jefferson County)- the provision of safe, efficient and effective crossings of I-80 over North Fork Redbank Creek and Water Plant Road that appropriately accommodate interstate traffic;
  • I-80 Over Lehigh River Bridge Project (Luzerne and Carbon counties)- the replacement of the aging bridges with wider structures; increase the length of the eastbound on-ramp auxiliary lane, the height of the bridges’ barriers and the width of the shoulders;
  • I-81 Susquehanna Project (Susquehanna County)- the replacement of the dual bridges over the Susquehanna River between Hallstead Borough and Great Bend Borough;
  • I-83 South Bridge Project (Dauphin County)- the replacement of the South Bridge;
