The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is assessing the responses from its launched request for information (RFI) concerning a potential public-private partnership (P3) project to develop, design, construct, implement, maintain and operate a truck-parking facilities in the state, north-east USA.
A total of 19 responses were received and are currently under review by PennDOT's P3 office. Responses were mostly submitted by companies in logistics and construction services, traffic management and software businesses.
The response of Natso, formerly the National Association of Truck Stop Operators, has urged PennDot to consider ways to minimize the private sector’s costs in building truck parking capacity and avoid extra regulatory measures that would impede the plans of the private truck parking providers. The services from private truck stops and travel plazas provide atleast 90% of the truck parking capacity in the country.
PennDot is planning to conduct one-on-one meetings with some of the responders to further the discussion of their individual ideas.
