The Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) and Tri Delta Transit have partnered with East County Connection Partners, LLC (ECCP) for the deployment of autonomous vehicles (Glydcars) designed for public transportation in Eastern Contra Costa County, California, USA.
The Dynamic Personal Micro Transit (DPMT) initiative introduces emissions-free, autonomous Glydcars, accommodating four passengers. These electric vehicles operate on dedicated elevated or at-grade guideways, separate from regular traffic, emphasizing convenience with sufficient space for luggage, bikes and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance. Envisioned to enhance transit accessibility in East County, connecting with Bay Area Paid Transit and local buses, the 28-mile guideways span Pittsburg, Antioch, Oakley, and Brentwood. Antioch, Brentwood, Oakley, and Pittsburg collaborated on the DPMT Feasibility Study, supporting potential micro-transit deployment. This innovative, fare-based transit initiative intends to improve transit accessibility for the 347,896 residents in East County.
This fare-based solution aims to alleviate Highway 4 congestion, with an estimated cost of US$450 million. The Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) and Tri Delta Transit, in partnership with East County Connection Partners (ECCP), comprising Glydways, Plenary Americas, and lead contractor Flatiron, drive the DPMT project.
