The government of Louisiana has announced that Ports America and MSC’s terminal arm Terminal Investment Limited (TiL) will invest US$800 million into a US$1.8 billion Louisiana International Terminal (LIT) public-private partnership (PPP) project in the USA.
With the ability to serve vessels of all sizes, LIT will increase Louisiana's import and export capacity and help create more than 17,000 new jobs across the state by 2050. LIT will be able to handle 2 million TEUs per year once completed, using a deeper 50-foot shipping channel in the Lower Mississippi and avoiding height restrictions from bridges across the Mississippi River upriver. The port will improve Louisiana's ability to attract logistics facilities, value-added services, and distribution centers and will only contribute to the success of Louisiana's agricultural exporters.
The project is in the design and permitting process. The construction of the project is planned to start in 2025, and the first berth will open in 2028.
