AD Ports Group has signed several agreements with Unicargas and Multiparques to secure a 20-year concession agreement with the Luanda Port Authority for operating and upgrading the Luanda multipurpose port terminal in Angola.

AD Ports Group has allocated US$251 million for the revitalization of the terminal and expansion of the logistics business within a 3-year timeframe (2024-2026). The Port of Luanda plays a crucial role in Angola's domestic economy, managing over 76% of the nation's container and general cargo traffic. Moreover, it serves as a vital transshipment hub for Central-West Africa, facilitating maritime trade access to landlocked countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.

Under the terms of the terminal concession agreement, the joint venture will extensively upgrade the existing multipurpose facility into a container and Ro-Ro terminal. This transformation includes enlarging the concession area from 178,000 sq. m to 192,000 sq. m, enhancing the quay wall, adding ship-to-shore cranes, gantry cranes, and other advanced equipment, increasing draft depth from 9.5 m to 16 m, and implementing modernized IT systems. The redevelopment of the terminal is scheduled for completion in Q3 2026, with an anticipated surge in container handling volumes from 25,000 TEUs to 350,000 TEUs and Ro-Ro volumes surpassing 40,000 vehicles. Throughout the three-year redevelopment period, container volumes will be managed at a nearby berth, with any excess volumes redirected to Multiparques' Viana inland container depot (ICD) to mitigate any disruptions for customers.
