The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) of Colombia has inaugurated Ruta al Mar 1 highway connecting Medellin with Urabá in Antioquia and the Atlantic coast. Along with the commencement of operation of Ruta al Mar 1, ANI also authorized the transfer of the Popayán - Santander de Quilichao concession guaranteeing its reactivation.
The Ruta al Mar 1 concession features a 181 km-long highway connecting Medellín with Santa Fe de Antioquia and Urabá, located in western Antioquia. The executed works include 74.80 km of rehabilitated roads, 33 km of improvement of single lane and 38 km of construction of second lane as well as 43 vehicular bridges and 1 tunnel of 4.6 kilometers. The highway will now enter into 25 years of operation and maintenance period.
The reactivation of the 77 km long Popayán-Santander de Quilichao project has been achieved after agreeing on the conditions for the transfer of 70% of the shares of Carlos Alberto Solarte (35%) and CASS Constructores (35%) in the project to CASA (a subsidiary of Hidalgo e Hidalgo). CASA will be responsible for the development of the highway with an investment value of COP1.6 billion (US$406.03million).
