The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has begun the operation of new third runways on the General Velásquez axis with an investment of US$ 5.3 million.
The works carried out in the commune of Renca, the highway is now complete with three lanes in each direction from the junction with Ruta 5 Norte to the junction of the upcoming Túnel Lo Ruiz project. The works lasted from September 2023 to May 2024 and included the addition of a third lane in the 2 km section between Puente Gran Envergadura (4.4 Km; at the height of Río Mapocho) and the Las Margaritas Pedestrian Walkway (6.5 Km). In addition to increasing the capacity of the road by 50%, going from 4 to 6 lanes, and reducing travel times, the Concession Company's work focused on improving the entrances and exits of the route, in addition to the incorporation of pavement markings, new LED lights and the relocation of the current acoustic screens.
