The Australian government has announced the operation stage of the Northern Territory Secure Facilities.

Darwin Correctional Centre is a medium security prison that has a capacity of 1,200 inmates and is located in Darwin, the Northern Territory's capital city. The Northern Territory Department of Corrections is responsible for the operation of all of the Northern Territory's secure facilities. The department's mission is to "provide a safe, secure and humane environment for the care and rehabilitation of offenders." The department has a number of programs and services in place to help offenders rehabilitate and reintegrate into the community. These programs include education, vocational training, drug and alcohol treatment, and counseling. The department provides housing, employment, and other services to help offenders make a successful transition back into the community.
