North of England leaders have demanded the government to commit GBP 39 billion (US$ 47.30 billion) to Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) as part of a 'northern budget'. 19 regional leaders including Greater Manchester Mayor and Mayor of the Liverpool City Region demanded the government to deliver on commitments previously promised as part of the Northern Powerhouse agenda.
The leaders have also called for a GBP 7 billion (US$ 8.49 billion) northern infrastructure pipeline, road and rail projects to be delivered by the mid-2020s, and GBP 1 billion (US$ 1.21 billion) for Transport for the North over the next three years for the development of NPR and other road and rail schemes.
