The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) announced that the international bidding process for the modernization project of the Huancayo – Huancavelica Railway has nine interested companies that have purchased participation rights in Peru.
Companies aiming to qualify as potential bidders must satisfy several prerequisites, including the following:
The Huancayo-Huancavelica Railway, operational since October 1926, boasts a route of 128.7 km, encompassing seven stations, 20 stops, 15 bridges, and 38 tunnels, all of which are slated for modernization. The project aims to revitalize the infrastructure of the Huancayo-Huancavelica Railway, also known as the Tren Macho, by introducing new rolling stock and implementing an advanced signaling and control system. This overhaul is designed to ensure a secure, efficient, and comfortable transportation system for users, featuring seven daily circulations in each direction. Additionally, the initiative includes the construction of a new repair and maintenance workshop, implementation of a drainage system, protection and stabilization of slopes, and, crucially, the renewal of the railway superstructure.
