The Federal Ministry of Water Resources in Nigeria received Full Business Certificate Compliance for the concession of 30 Megawatts Gurara Hydropower Dam from the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC). This action from the ICRC will now result in successful awarding and signing of the concession agreement opening doors for the prospective partners and investors.
Full Business Certificate Compliance shows that the project has completed all technical and financial transactions for the hydropower component of the dam for concession. The concessionaire will operate, maintain and manage the Phase I of the Gurara Hydropower Plant. The Dam, situated 75km from the FCT, has a crest of 3.2km in length, maximum height of 54 meters and reservoir capacity of 880 million cubic meters. The intake of the conveyance pipeline is located on the right bank; about 1.6km upstream of the Dam. It has a 45km high intake tower comprising of four independent 4m high and 2.5m wide intakes equipped with stop-logs and fixed screens located at a different elevation to allow withdrawal of water of the required quality.
Other activities being carried out in the course of the concession include an application for power generation license with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and preparation of grid connection agreement among others.
