The Indian Road Transport and Highways Ministry has informed that presently 173 Km, 92.42 % of the total work is completed for the 4-Laning of Goa/Karnataka Border to Kundapur section of NH-17 in Karnataka.
The project is a 187.240 km long four-lane highway project on NH-17 and is a part of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) IV and is being implemented by IRB West-coast Tollway Ltd on a Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) basis. It includes widening the existing two-lane highway to four lanes, including the construction of two twin-tube tunnels, 61.262 km of service roads, 14 major bridges, and 39 minor bridges. The project also includes the construction of four flyovers. The alignment connects major cities & towns along the way including Panvel, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Panaji, Margao, Karwar, Udupi, Surathkal, Mangalore, Kozhikode, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, & Kanyakumari.
The project was launched in 2018 and is expected to be completed by December 2022. The total cost of the project is estimated to be INR 2,923 crore (US$379 million).
