The government of Newfoundland and Labrador has launched RFQ for the Design, Build, Finance, and Maintenance of a New Adult Corrections Facility on the northeast end of St. John’s.
The new facility will be 21,000-square-metres (225,000 sq. ft.) big and it will replace the aging 160-year-old Her Majesty’s Penitentiary (HMP). The new facility will also use technology to increase safety and provide more access to mental health and addiction services.
The estimated cost of the construction of the project is CAD 200 million (USD 149 million).
The province plans to issue the request for proposals (RFP) in the beginning of the next year. Construciton is expected to start in 2022 and run for through 2025.
The deadline to submit qualifications is on October 1, 2020.
