Japanese developer Global Utility Development has submitted its unsolicited proposal to build the Kaliwa intake weir in Metro Manila.
The project involves the construction of a 7-meter-high weir with a 16-kilometer-long tunnel that has a diameter of 3.3 meters. The facility can generate up to 550 million liters per day (mld) of water.
The first unsolicited proposal was submitted to the Philippine Government in 2009 but was not approved. The new proposal would build the project under the Build-Operate-Transfer contract for 25 years with no expenses from the project cost of about US$410 million to the government.
