Nairobi County has announced the launch of a street lighting project aimed at enhancing public safety, reducing energy consumption, and promoting sustainable urban development.
The project aims to modernisation, expand, operate and maintenance of approximately 100,000 street lighting assets to pre-agreed standards. The Project entails establishing an intelligent street lighting system that includes retrofitting existing lighting fixtures with LED lamps, installing new LED lamps and establishing a Common Management System (CMS) underpinned by ultra-narrowband technology as the anchor of the smart street lighting system.
The project is currently in the feasibility study phase, with the Public Private Partnerships Directorate overseeing its development. Once implemented, the initiative is expected to enhance urban safety, reduce operational costs, and contribute to Nairobi's environmental sustainability goals.
