Romania's new government has expressed the wish to close PPP projects launched by the previous government. The proposal includes PPP infrastructure projects Targu-Neamt-Iasi, and Comarnic-Brasov highways.
The argument for the proposal is the criticality of the Comarnic - Brasov section on Bucharest-Brasov highway. The Comarnic - Brasov section is the first high-speed road connection between the southern and central parts of Romania. The prime minister stated that the project should be developed either under a public-private partnership project managed by a credible independent bank or by the Government with money from the public budget. The Targu-Neamt - Iasi highway project is part of a bigger project aimed to connect the Transylvania and Moldova regions. The project will cost in availability payments of EUR 61 million (US$ 67.63 million) for 30 years to the concessionaire to make the investment feasible.
