The New Orleans Local Authority (NOLA) has shown interest to redevelop the Old Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.
The historic New Orleans hospital building is set to undergo a transformative redevelopment into a mixed-use facility, encompassing various components such as medical offices, research spaces, retail outlets, restaurants, apartments, a daycare center, and a playground. Additionally, the building will host a clinical and mental health research center, a long-term psychiatric and substance abuse inpatient facility, low-income housing, and holistic healing programs, all integrated within the site.
The state issued a request for ideas to revitalize the building, along with four other adjacent properties: a 15,600 ft² office building, a 12,300 ft² structure formerly used as a maintenance shop, a 15,700 ft² former Delgado building (previously a primary care facility), and the 22,700 ft² Butterworth building, which previously served as office space for health care services. This ambitious redevelopment project aims to preserve the building's iconic status while reimagining it as a multifaceted hub that caters to various community needs and services.
