The Chilian Ministery of Public Works announced that the improvement and expansion work on the Nahuelbuta Route, a concessioned road of approximately 55 km in length, which connects the Biobío and Araucanía regions and represents an investment of close to US$250 million has reached 73% progress.
The concessioned initiative includes the expansion to double track of about 55 km between the municipalities of Negrete and Los Ángeles, in the Biobío Region; and the municipalities of Angol and Renaico, in the Araucanía Region, with an investment of USD$250 million. The works, which will be completed during the second half of 2025, include two lanes in each direction along its entire length, new bridges, junctions, pedestrian walkways, bus stops, lighting, and also landscaping.
The main works under construction include 15 new bridges; 23 pedestrian walkways; 21 km of cycle paths; 13 underpasses; 4 overpasses; and 32 km of service roads. Additionally, it includes the construction of bus stops with Mapuche relevance, sidewalks and pedestrian circuits, 2 viewing points, and the creation of a total of 560,000 m2 of landscaping, 360,000 m2 in the Biobío Region, and 200,000 m2 in the Araucanía Region. In terms of security, it includes roadside control areas and an LED lighting system in pedestrian traffic areas, junctions, and service areas.
