The University Hospital Galway(UHG) has announced that a New Innovative Information System for Cancer Treatment is Implemented at Galway University in Ireland.

UHG has initially designated a cancer center to introduce and execute the National Cancer Information System (NCIS), a program that is set to be deployed across all 26 hospitals nationwide offering Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy. Within UHG, this system establishes a centralized, nationwide computerized framework that captures and stores patient cancer diagnosis, case history, and treatment data.

The primary objective of this initiative is to establish a clinical information system tailored to bolster the care of oncology and haemato-oncology patients, which includes the administration of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy, including chemotherapy. Access to a patient's comprehensive cancer record will be facilitated through the NCIS, ensuring that pertinent healthcare professionals can access patient data promptly and suitably. This encompasses features like Systemic Anti-Cancer treatment prescription, electronic medication administration records, support for sterile compounding, documentation and recommendations for Multi-Disciplinary Meetings (MDM), and reporting functionalities.
