São Paulo State Transport Agency (Artesp) and the Department of Logistics and Transport held a virtual public hearing to present and discuss a new proposed model for the concession of the northern section of the Rodoanel Mario Covas (SP-021) highway. The stretch is a 44-kilometer long road, passing through the municipalities of São Paulo, Arujá and Guarulhos.
This last stretch of the Rodoanel Mario Covas highway was already tendered in 2018, but it was not successful. Under the agreement, the winning company will assume the operation, maintenance and finance as well as the conclusion of all construction works. The project includes the development of new lanes with shoulders, 14 tunnels, 61 bridges/viaducts, rest areas and others, in addition to operational vehicles to serve the entire stretch.
The investments in the project include BRL2.4 billion (US$475,5 million) in addition to BRL1.5 billion (US$297.2 million) for operation and maintenance. The concession period will be 30 years. Participation in the competition will be open for both Brazilian and foreign companies.
